Powder Metallurgy Science Group

The Powder Metallurgy Science Group is a research unit within the Division of Materials of the School of Engineering. Started in 1991, the group currently consists of nine people, including four research fellows, a research assistant and three postgraduate students. We work on the processing of metal powders. In particular, we have both pioneered the development of aluminium alloys that have been designed to be sintered and we have developed a unique rapid prototyping system for aluminium. In the last ten years, we have graduated ten higher degree students, published over 60 papers in the peer reviewed literature and registered five patents. We have raised over $4.5 million in research support from both government and industry sources in Australia, the USA and England with continuous funding from the Australian Research Council.
